In today’s world, it is nice that we can pay with the swipe of a card, or get money automatically from ATM machines. However, fees from these types of transactions can add up. For example, each time we go to our local movie theater, they charge us $0.99 on top of our bill to use our debit card. I understand that they pay for credit card processing services, but I simply REFUSE to pay this extra $0.99!! If you pay $1.00 (Or even up to $2.50) each time you pull money from your local ATM machine, you would be spending $50 a year if you made a withdrawal once a week. You could see FOUR movies for that price! Check with your local bank to find out where your local ATM’s are located, and if there is a surcharge to use your cards either as debit or credit. I know exactly where my local bank’s ATM’s are located, and I plan shopping trips accordingly!
Personally, we bank at a Credit Union, and I find it much less complicated, because we pay very few fees, and we don’t have to carry minimum balances in our checking or savings accounts. It may be worth it for you to look into so you’re not giving more money to the banks! It doesn’t hurt to comparison shop around at other banks and credit unions to see which type of account will save you the most money!
