Hubby and I are always looking for ways to save money on homemade cleaners like this DIY Febreeze Spray. He recently came home with this DIY concoction from a coworker. We have made Homemade Laundry Detergent, Hydrogen Peroxide Miracle Cleaner (this is a reader favorite), DIY Ice Melt (Safe For Pets) -another reader favorite. A large part of any budget can be eaten up in toiletry and cleaning costs. We try to make as many items at home for less as possible. Many people don’t realize they can make these same things for less with items that literally cost pennies.
We recently started making many homemade toiletry items with everyday items and our Young Living essential oils. Check out all of our homemade toiletry items and all of our DIY and Frugal Living posts.
DIY Febreeze Spray
Ingredients:
- Fabric softener
- Baking soda
- Water.
Directions:
- You simply mix equal parts fabric softener (of your choice) and baking soda.
- Double the amount of water and add that too.
- Simply shake and put into a spray bottle.
Hubby used this on our curtains, and it totally worked. We also use it on the furniture, and even clothing that needs spruced up before going out.

I love the smell and it works great, but I’ve ruined two spray bottles. Both were checked to insure they worked before I used the solution and both ended up not spraying anymore. Am I doing something wrong or have you experienced the same problem?
