LeapFrog once again brought us Christmas early, only in September this time with these three amazing products. These were perfect for our older son and our toddler. The LeapFrog Epic tablet was obviously opened first, and if you didn’t get a chance, read our LeapFrog Platinum tablet review as well! The LeapFrog Epic tablet has a home screen where children can bring a town to life using artistic styles that reflect their age and mood. My boys were actually both wanting to play, and I love the fact that they each have their own log-in for age appropriate apps and games. Make sure to watch our son’s unboxing video at the bottom of the post!
They can access LeapFrog-exclusive content- games, apps, eBooks, and more that include 2,600 skills. It has Just for Me Learning technology that personalizes games up to 10 different ways. Select games also adjust the curriculum automatically to suit your child’s needs. It also keeps their progress in memory. I also love the fact that there are no in-app purchases. You can also control what your child can access online with the LeapSearch browser, with kid-safe web content pre-selected by LeapFrog experts.
There are also parent controls for up to three profiles. The LeapFrog Epic tablet comes with all the power you’d expect from an operating system based on Android 4.4 with a quad-core processor and a 7″ LCD screen. It also has 16GB of memory, is Wi-Fi enabled, and has a 2MP camera with a stylus and 20+ apps. However, please note that the LeapFrog cartridges are not compatible with this device.
As a teacher, I can tell you that these products are amazing. Keep in mind that these are not tablets geared for adults, and I think that is very important to remember. While this tablet is very impressive, this is geared towards children and their learning needs. What I’m looking for are what skills are taught to children, and this is once again why I love LeapFrog products and have used them in my classroom for many years. With so many educational toys on the market, I am always so impressed by the obvious expertise and knowledge of their creators, because they hit necessary skills that other products cannot match.
If you are looking for a gift for a child for Christmas, the LeapFrog Epic tablet is just that- epic. I feel as an educator it is definitely priced well at $139.99, and will definitely engage your child in worthwhile, educational activities that will help them prepare for school, and progress in school level skills for older children. Also, remember that this product can be used with more than once child, so it could also be a family gift as well.
