Many of you may not know that in my other life I’m a Reading Specialist, so I LOVE to share ideas about how to teach children! One way to learn how to recognize words is to play the Fly Swatter Game to teach various skills such as letters, numbers, words, math facts, and many more skills.
How to Play:
1. Write the words (or letters, numbers, math facts, etc.) your child needs to learn on an index card, and lay them out on the table.
2. Use new, clean 😉 fly swatters from the Dollar Store or Dollar Tree (buy as many as you need for how many players you will have.)
3. Lay out the cards on a table face up so you can read the words.
4. You will need a caller to call the various words, and then whoever hits the word with the fly swatter first keeps the card, and earns one point. You can play for as many points as you want, depending on how many words you need to learn.
This can be used to practice sight words, spelling words, vocabulary words for various subjects, addition facts, etc.
If you wanted to you addition on multiplication facts, you could have the problem on another card that you show them, and then have them swat for the answers.
