Welcome to our 35 Days to an Organized Home Challenge! Tonight our video discusses organizing your time so you can find more time for happiness!! During this challenge, I’ve discovered that being more organized has brought me more time and more happiness! I really didn’t know that these would be an additional benefit from this challenge! We’re giving you some tips tonight that will hopefully help you achieve this same happiness and increase in your free time! Make sure to watch our video below as I outline all the steps in organizing your time!
Also, our video really focuses on why relationships are the most important thing in life. Some people in your family may actually not be worth a ton of your time, and they actually drag you down, so make sure you invest your time into healthy relationships!
1. Maintain your organizing systems on a daily basis. This is one of the main secrets behind staying organized! If you’re not going to maintain your systems, there is no real point in organizing in the first place. It’s the maintenance of the systems that brings consistency to your organizing routine, and allows you to stay on top of chores and tasks that can become overwhelming or very time consuming if they are not maintained!
2. Keep a monthly calendar and a daily to do list. You must have a monthly calendar and set aside time to keep track of dates on your calendar. Keep track of all important dates for haircuts, birthdays, etc. on this monthly calendar. Then break down tasks that require any prep work into small steps that can be done in advance.
3. Keep a Time Log for one week (up to one month). This will help you see where you spent your time, and if you spent it wisely. Many times we don’t realize how much time we waste, and this really helps us see where we can better manage our time. This will also help us prioritize how we spend our time and help us put the most important things first!
4. Avoid Time Sucks. You know those things that such you in and waste your time?? For me it’s Candy Crush, Facebook, and certain people in my life who don’t add much to my life.
5. Time yourself. Each day I try to time myself when I’m reorganizing my house each night, so that I don’t go too slow, and am able to do chores that may not be my favorite more quickly so I’m spending less time doing what I don’t want to do!
6. Keep a Small Clock in Key Places. I had to put a small digital clock in the bathroom, because this is where I seem to waste the most time!
7. Turn it Off. This is different for everyone, and for some it may mean turning off your Facebook Chat, your phone, your email, your TV. Turn off any distracting technology that takes your time or doesn’t help you focus when you’re trying to complete a task.
8. Just Say No. Say no to things that waste your time, and don’t over-commit! I’ve been very guilty of this in the past, because I was a people pleaser and wanted to make everyone happy!
9. Prioritize your Tasks by Deadlines. When is this project due? Is your sister’s birthday next week but your anniversary is next month? While you might need to work on some anniversary things in advance, you really need to focus on the immediate tasks so you can get them done in time.
10. Schedule Time to Have Fun. You actually need to put this on the calendar and make sure that you are taking care of you!
11. Leave Room for Margin. Sometimes things come up that need your attention and take away from your plan. Don’t be too rigid with your plan that relationships don’t come first!
