Our family recently made a trek across the country to the Young Living 2016 International Grand Convention in Salt Lake City, UT. We purchased a camper/motorhome just for this trip (we will post more about that later with ways to save when RV’ing). We drove a total of over 5,000 miles and stopped at Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore during our trip as well. Again, there will be another post about those parts of the trip! We have loved our Young Living products for over two years, and we really felt it was important to visit the farms in Utah to see the quality of the farms for ourselves.
While convention lasts for several days, you can purchase a ticket to visit the local farm for an entire day during convention. Our Farm Day was on Saturday, and we were self-transport, so we drove ourselves in our camper to the Mona, UT farm on Saturday. To be honest, we were blown away by not only the beautiful farm, but the professionalism of Farm Day, the estate itself (can you say beautiful?), and how it was obviously created to be a wonderful experience for the entire family.
I told our oily members that the founders, Gary & Mary Young obviously have a heart for families and a love for oils. The farm itself was almost like a small-scale amusement park without the rides. There was a playground for children, and an old western themed “town” where little ones could go in and play .

Not only was the convention amazing, but the farm experience was so eye opening. I recommend that anyone who has any questions about our company versus other EO companies come to one of the Young Living farms.
(Both of my boys amongst the lavender plants).
The first thing I wanted to do at the farm was visit the fields and distillery. Below you can see they were distilling juniper that day and yarrow as well.
You can see the distillation machines and how steam is used to distill the oils. You could feel the heat coming from the machines.
This was the juniper that was being shredded and then added to the distillation machines.
These front end loaders would take the juniper from the shredder and place it in piles to be ready for distillation.
My mom was able to get a great shot of the oil after it is separated from the leftover water in the distillation machines. Yarrow wasn’t my favorite smell, so I didn’t get to take as many pictures from that process!
Once we learned about the distillation process I was ready to head to the fields! I wanted to see as much of the fields as possible. There was an entire field of clary sage, and it was absolutely gorgeous! We all had the opportunity to plant in the fields, and this was one of my favorite parts!
I was really almost in tears, because at this point, I realized how much I loved this company. How much they cared for their plants, fields, workers, horses, animals, grounds, and everything else. There was a sense of excellence at the farm, and it made me so proud to be a part of this company.
There is something rewarding about planting new life, and knowing that you’re part of a bigger movement of something wonderful.
I love the fact that this company gives so much time and attention to the plants, the botany, and the distillation process. I don’t know of any other essential oil company in the world that devotes this much to making sure they are producing a quality product. The other amazing part of the farm was how Gary & Mary love to entertain and even Gary shows off his jousting skills from time to time in their Medieval jousting arena!
These two pictures show the side and back of the jousting arena. There was no jousting going on the day were at the farm, but we still wanted to grab some pics!
Check out the barns and stadiums below. Many times they use horses to harvest if it’s better for the environment.
I have to admit, one of the best parts of the day was the lunch they provided as part of our ticket. It was amazing, non-gmo, gluten-free, and amazing! I wish I could eat like that every day! Check out our lavender lemonade below!
