While my family and I were in New York City last weekend, we were able to check out Madame Tussauds! (Read about our experience on The Ride as well!) As soon as you come out of the Lincoln Tunnel you will start seeing major signs, and this will be one of the first ones you see. In case you’ve never heard of it, it is actually a Museum for life-size wax replicas of famous Americans & historic icons in several galleries. Right now we have an exclusive offer for our readers where you can save 15% on your next visit to Madame Tussauds!
Since I had never been to Madame Tussauds, I wasn’t sure what to expect. As a teacher I found it very educational. I honestly thought it was going to be entirely about celebrities. While there were galleries that features celebrities, there was also a gallery dedicated to various Presidents of the United States. Each wax figure had an historical background plaque beside it explaining who this person was in history and their major accomplishments along with trivia. I was able to learn so much about Neil Armstrong and other historical figures.
It was so neat for our son to continue to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. since we were able to visit the hotel where he was shot last summer in Memphis. This was definitely a neat experience in addition to some serious fun! The best part for my son was the 4D Avengers experience. He loved this part of the tour and I don’t want any spoilers in this post, but he loves super heroes, and this was definitely his favorite part of the tour!
There were stars from all eras, and Jimmy Fallon is one of my favorites, so I was pretty excited to see him there! Of course I had to take this picture of Lucille Ball for my mom.
I was surprised how choked up I became about seeing Robin Williams as part of the collection. It was sort of like a flashback to a foreshadow of things to come if that makes any sense. It was tough for me to see an iconic hero that I loved growing up, knowing that now his legacy is just a memory. All of the laughter brought to so many by his life can’t be taken away by how his life ended.
This is definitely a must-see if you are ever in New York City, and several other major cities as well! Have you ever been to Madame Tussauds before? Comment below about your favorite parts!
