Ant-Man PG-13 (2015)
Movie Review – No Spoilers Included
I had the incredible privilege of attending a New York City blogger-exclusive screening of the latest Marvel superhero movie, Ant-Man!!!! Being a fan of the Marvel universe and its large and small screen productions (Iron Man, Capt. America, Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, and Avengers, to name a few), I had been curious to meet the new superhero. Then, I learned who the cast members were! Multi-talented Paul Rudd (‘Ant-Man’), Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly (Kate/’Lost’), and of course several cameo cross-overs who connect the various other superheroes and agents to the rest of the brilliant Marvel world.
I grabbed a girlfriend and made our way to New York City – excited for our special preview.
Paul, himself, greeted the group and answered a few questions from the event host:
I adore Paul, and have been a fan ever since “Clueless” (1995). Since then he has shown his wide versatility in such goofy comedies like “Anchorman” and rom-coms like “Object of my Affection”.
Paul was his clever, charming and friendly self. On his way out, he ran into a few late-running bloggers and exclaimed, “Oh, wow, you guys arrived late and missed all the fun. You missed the best part!”
Such a ham. Perfect casting for Ant-Man.
Then the trailers began and the audience excitedly all sat on the edge of our seats, ready for the highly anticipated film to start. We donned our 3D glasses, and enjoyed our complimentary soda and popcorn.
Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale):
Feel free to make the best decision for your family. We are still very selective with PG-13 movies for our 10-year old daughter.
2 – Nudity – Costumes are tight and revealing.
3 – Adult-themed dialog: 7 scatological terms, 6 anatomical terms, 19 mild obscenities, 2 religious exclamations (Oh My God, Oh God), name-calling (crazy, idiot, stupid, pussy, weird, hot shot, princess, old, old man, senile, wombats, gypsies, spooky, freaky, martyr, monster), stereotypical references to thieves, superheroes, villains, crazed scientists, corporate executives, men, women, aging people, divorced couples, police officers, African Americans, Hispanics, Russians.
If your family likes the previous Marvel movies, then you will enjoy this one too!
Synopsis:
Scott (Ant-Man) is released from prison and is determined to ignore his extraordinary skills as a burglar, to lead a legitimate life, so he can have a better relationship with his young daughter. Meanwhile, a wealthy scientist requires the ex-con’s help in protecting the world from a crazy colleague.
The previous Marvel presentations were all well done (great sfx, tight casting, true to character representation). This Superhero Origin story did not fall short.
The action was thrilling, the storyline felt like a comic book adventure brought to life, and the main and sideline characters were highly entertaining. Ant-Man was a fun ride, and I would go again. If you and your family enjoyed the previous superhero flicks, you will not be disappointed with this addition to the Marvel collection.
Tip: STAY FOR THE CREDITS!!! There are two teaser clips at the end, continuing the tradition of their other movies.
I can’t wait for you to see the movie, and let me know what you think below.
