Recently I was given an opportunity to preview a bottle of Everest Krill Oil by Everest Nutrition, and I was especially excited about this, since I’ve recently been diagnosed with high cholesterol and triglycerides. My husband takes fish oil daily for his heart, and I wanted to try one of the fish oils to help combat my high numbers! So, you can imagine my excitement about trying this product! Of course, I realize that ANYONE with shellfish allergies will not be able to use Krill Oil, as it is in the shrimp family.
However, I do not have any allergies to shellfish, so I wanted to see if there was a difference between this and fish oil. As with all Omega-3 Fish/Shellfish based oils, there was some fish odor. However, not any more than the fish oil my husband takes.
Also, Krill Oil benefits are said to include:
- Improve your cardiovascular health
- Regulate blood pressure
- Balance your cholesterol levels
- Maintain healthy blood sugar levels
- Strengthen joints and bones
- Relieve pain
- Improve your memory
- Give your skin that healthy youthful glow
While I haven’t been back to have my bloodwork checked since starting this supplement, I’m anxious to see if my numbers change! Also, I’m anxious to hear your thoughts on Krill Oil! Have you had any experience with it? Do you like it? Let us know!!
****PLEASE NOTE: Krill Oil can interact with blood thinners, so PLEASE discuss taking this and all other supplements with your doctor before trying any Krill Oil.
Please read the following warning/side-effect information from Web MD:
Krill oil seems to be safe for most adults when used appropriately for a short amount of time (up to three months). Research on krill oil has not adequately evaluated its safety or possible side effects. However, it is likely that krill oil can cause some side effects similar to fish oil such as bad breath, heartburn, fishy taste, upset stomach, nausea, and loose stools.
Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of krill oil during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
Seafood allergy: Some people who are allergic to seafood might also be allergic to krill oil supplements. There is no reliable information showing how likely people with seafood allergy are to have an allergic reaction to krill oil; however, until more is known, avoid using krill oil or use it cautiously if you have a seafood allergy.
Surgery: Because krill oil can slow blood clotting, there is concern that it might increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery. Stop using krill oil at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
