This weekend my family had the privilege of getting to see a preview of Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green. This is an amazing movie about a couple that is unable to have children (If you don’t know, our son is adopted from Guatemala and we have personally struggled with infertiltiy). So, I SHOULD have snagged a few of the free tissues before I entered the theater!
This is the story of how Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
While there were times that watching the film was difficult, or didn’t completely match my feelings during infertility, it was still moving to see how this couple worked through their grief and the magical experience that helped them see that parenting is more than just about a child that is “like” you. This movie is a breakthrough if portraying the story of adoption and how parenting isn’t about making a perfect child or parent. Since I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, I just want to say that as an adoptive parent, the movie has my blessing- and don’t forget to take your tissues! Check out the sneak peek clip below!
