Have you been watching the 2012 Olympics? I just love to watch gymnastics and pull for team USA! Women’s gymnastics has always been my favorite. I always dreamed to become a gymnast, but I since I come from a small town where they didn’t even have gymnastics that dream was not coming true. As I am getting older I like to see what sports I could still possibly make it into. So far kayaking and horseback riding are up there. I still have a shot to make it to Rio for 2016, but I am probably going to be sitting here telling you about the Olympics in four years.
Since it is Olympics I wanted to create a craft for the kids to enjoy the games. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this simple Olympic craft sooner. The cost to me for this Olympic craft is $0, and probably for you too.
Tissue Paper Olympic Torches
Materials:
1 paper towel tube
3 sheets tissue paper
1 yellow
1 orange
1 red
Gold paint
Glue
Newspaper
1. Spread out some newspaper. For you couponers, I know you have this at home! Get your paper towel tube and gold paint.
2. Paint the tube gold and let this dry. I am in Texas. We took these outside and they dried in a few minutes. This will be the base of your Olympic torch.
3. Next lay out your tissue paper in this order: Yellow, Orange and Red on top. I save tissue paper from gifts to use for crafts like this. Now from underneath gather the tissue paper to form a flower like shape or the flames for your torch.
4. Put glue on the inside near the top of the gold Olympic tube created earlier and push your tissue flame into the top of the tube. Allow glue to dry a while before running around the house or the block with the Olympic torch.
This is so simple to make and this provided hours of fun celebrating the Olympics with the kids. We made two of these. One for little face and one for little miss. They enjoyed running around the house and touching each other’s torches to pretend they were in the Olympic torch relay.
