In the last two months, I have seen this tip in at least 3 magazines, so I’m sharing it with you tonight! If you’re like me, you like to cook with fresh herbs, but they can be SO EXPENSIVE. Also, sometimes you only need a small amount, but you HAVE to buy a certain size because that is all they carry at the store. Well, NOW you can keep those herbs fresh by chopping them, and placing them in an ice cube tray and adding enough water to make a frozen herb ice cube! Then when you need a fresh herb, you can pop it out of the tray and add to your recipe! I have a great window in my laundry room to grow herbs. I”ve grown them before but never knew what to do with them! Now I know! 🙂
From the articles I’ve read, these can be frozen this way for 6 months. Herbs that freeze well using this method include basil, chervil, chives, cilantro, dill, fennel, garlic chives, mint, parsley, tarragon and thyme. You can also use chicken broth instead of water. Once they are frozen, you can pop them out of the tray and put them in Ziploc bags with a label, so you know which herb you’ve frozen!
