If you are hitting the road this week you might wonder how you are going to keep your kids entertained! We have traveled a lot with our two young boys and most of the time they are good travelers. I take time to prepare for the trip though with plenty of activities and snacks.
Tips to make your road trip go smoothly:
- Pack lot’s of snacks and a cooler with drinks. My kids love snacks and packing items saves money.
- Bring a bag with toys and activities. I reserve some toys just for long car trips that way the toys are like new to my boys. I also include coloring and activity books with crayons.
- Use a portable DVD player for movies. We only allow the boys to watch movies in the car if we are taking a trip that is over an hour. This way the DVD player is special and they tend to be entertained. I check out free DVD’s from the library which we can keep for two weeks.
- Bring a joke book along. For our trip this week I checked a children’s joke book out from the library. I also use my smartphone to google knock knock jokes!
- Play games like I Spy, Counting Games, License Plate Games and more. You can find a lot of great ideas on Moms Minivan including printable sheets for the games.
- Point out the scenery, buildings and vehicles. We try to have educational conversations as we see new things.
Take some time to gather entertainment items for your next road trip and the ride will be that much better!
