Today we are going to talk about developing a NEW way of thinking about how you spend your money to you can live DEBT FREE! After a conversation with friends the other day, I realized that each of us has to realize that we are our own company purchasers for our home! Just like those in a company make purchasing decisions for their corporation, WE make purchasing decisions for our family.
When we approach our home budget like an economist, we tend to see the budget and we can put the things we want into perspective. I say want because most Americans have their basic needs met, and after paying the major bills of shelter, food, clothes, and transportation, the rest is usually spent on wants! In fact, even a lot of our shleter/food/clothing money still goes to wants and not to meeting our basic needs.
Think of using couponing and frugal living as a way to meet your basic needs. Once we achieve that goal, we can focus on living DEBT FREE. Today, I encourage you to use our Debt Paydown form as a way to get a handle on your debts. Whether you’ve faced your debts head-on, or whether you’re not even sure how many debts you have, TODAY is the day to start planning your future. While we have limited control in the things that happen in this life, we do have control over our spending decisions.
To become your own “home economist” so to speak, you have to take a close look at your budget also, and learn how to spend your home money as though you were a company’s CFO. Take a look at where each dollar goes, how you’re spending your money, and where you can cut back. Also, it’s a GREAT WAY to start setting priorities, such as a child’s college fund, or a future purchase. We have not learned to save in this generation, and I want to blow the trumpets to get everyone’s attention. EVERY FAMILY IN AMERICA should be trying to save money! You can use our MY Budget form to get started.
Once you’ve taken a look at your debts and your budget, then start learning from our Coupon Class section of the blog. Start learning how to spend your money by getting less for more! Once you begin learning how to do that, you’ll even spend less time focusing on your wants! Start thinking of others and how you can even GIVE away some of your free shopping booty! Even the free samples can go to charity if you can’t use them! I’m sure a homeless person doesn’t care if its a sample Kashi bar or not! LOL. So what are you waiting for! Get going!
