As with all New Years resolutions, you want to keep them going throughout the entire year. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, get in shape, or put your finances in order, it can be tough to keep the momentum going. However, this year, we want to help you improve your credit score. The main way to do this is by looking at a copy of your credit report.
Your credit score is one of the main ways that financial institutions determine your ability to borrow money and pay that money back. However, many people are not even aware of their credit score, or that they can get a copy of a free credit score. In fact, Americans are entitled to one FREE copy of their score each year.
Once you have your score, check it for errors. While it can be difficult to dispute reporting errors, persistance is the key. I have helped various people through a non-profit in our area to repair their credit. We always wrote letters (sometimes they were certified letters), and kept copies of all correspondance.
We will be discussing all of these topics in upcoming weeks. These are just some starting points as we look towards helping you get your finances on track, and learn how to live debt free!
