It’s been eight months since my dad lost his leg, and I received SO MUCH love and support from my fans during those dark days. It’s been an amazing adjustment this year not only for my dad, but for the rest of our family as well. We welcomed my beautiful niece into the world (I totally stole this pic from my sister’s facebook page, so if she’s reading this I hope she knows how thankful I am that she’s better with a camera than I am!) LOL. Having my niece has given our entire family something wonderful to focus on, and has helped ease the pain of my dad’s loss to some extent. I’m so proud of my dad. He’s been through so much, and has fought the pain of the surgery, days of feeling blue, and the pain of physical therapy and recovery. He’s kept a positive attitude, and hasn’t let it stop him from making progress.
He’s shown me what it means to overcome, to cope, and to heal. My step-mom has done an amazing job of taking care of my dad, and I’m so thankful for her love and care that she gives him each day. All those things I take for granted like walking to the bathroom, going up and down steps, and getting in and out of the car have given me a new perspective on my bad days. While my dad’s diabetes has gotten somewhat better, it was actually a blog clot that caused him to lose his leg above the knee. It’s been amazing to watch our family reconnect and grow even closer through this tragedy. It’s days like today that I count my blessings! Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to all my fans who reached out to me during the difficult days!

I just found your blog more recently, so I wasn’t around when this happened, but I am so glad to hear your dad is doing better and you are all adjusting and going forward. My uncle lost his leg to a blood clot (and came very close to losing his other leg 2 weeks after he lost the first) a few years ago. He is doing great today, its amazing the strides he has made, he even drives using his left leg now. Hugs and prayers to you & your family.

Your niece is beautiful! What a sweet picture, with her looking up at him like that. I am so glad your Dad is doing better now. My Mom had type 2 Diabetes for 17 years, but has lost 40 lbs in the past year and her doctor has taken her off all her diabetes medications. You can read about it on my blog here: http://middleoftheroadlesstraveled.blogspot.com/2012/07/my-mom-is-losing-it.html
