Many of our readers know that we have an adopted son from Guatemala, but we are currently seven months into our first pregnancy after sixteen years of marriage. Make sure to read our amazing story about the Parable of the Persistent Widow! It’s been such an amazing road we’ve traveled, and I’m so grateful that my life turned out the way it did, because it makes me appreciate what I have and do so much more than if I hadn’t had any struggles. This past weekend our families threw a beautiful baby celebration for us, and I hate to call it a shower, because it was so much more than that. We shared, prayed and cried together, and it was so amazing to spend time with those who have seen us struggle with infertility these many long years.
It was part of my heart’s desire to share some of our beautiful moments with our readers, and let you know how much we appreciate all of you as well! Many times you have encouraged me in times of sorrow (like when my dad lost his leg three years ago), and in joy (when I announced our pregnancy). I wanted to share this special day with you as well!!
The cake had beautiful fondant icing, with matching cupcakes that had the letter “J” for Jackson in fondant as well.
Our centerpieces were fresh hydrangea and tulips, and they were absolutely gorgeous! Hydrangea is actually one of my top three favorite flowers, so the colors were breathtaking!
My older sister-in-law has been in the catering business for twenty years, however, this weekend her mom and little sister took over with our shower and created such a beautiful atmosphere for our guests! The only request I had for the shower was to have it at a local facility’s commons room, because it was a more coffee house feel, and I didn’t want to be at a banquet facility. We really wanted an intimate setting where we could celebrate with our closest family friends!
The buffet consisted of wraps, strawberry spinach salad, pasta salad, crab dip, spinach dip, fruit, and chocolate covered strawberries. We also had punch, the typical refreshments (water, coffee, tea, etc.), and some wine. One of our family members summed it up with delectable! I love that word, because everything really did taste amazing!
The decorations utilized tulle of two colors and white lights strung from light set to light set, because this was not a drop ceiling. It was still very, very beautiful! They also used the lanterns and pom poms throughout the room to create a sense of baby boy!!
Our gift table was set up beautifully as well with pom poms and the tulle/lighting combo above as well! As you can see below not everyone was seated at tables, and we really wanted a coffeehouse feel so everyone would be more inclined to talk! This is also a better picture of the lanterns and lights.
Of course, I had to show off the baby bump! People are finally starting to notice I’m pregnant now! At work I wear a coat to go in and out of my schools, so a lot of people haven’t even noticed yet!
Hubby and I rarely ever get a photo of the two of us together where our eyes are open, so I’m thinking the side angle is better for us! LOL
This day was one of those days in my life that I will never forget. It is the culmination of 16 years of marriage, and praying for a pregnancy. We have absolutely loved becoming parents both ways, and I still cry each time I think about my son who flew across the ocean and landed in my arms over eight years ago. I never want him to feel less loved or anything less than perfect, because he is perfect in so many ways. There is still a longing in a woman’s heart to feel a baby move on the inside of her, and to experience birth, and after praying with persistence, after all of these years, I know with God, all things are possible. Make sure you read about our beautiful Parable of the Persistent Widow story!
