Since I started couponing, I’ve met many people who I feel are couponing snobs, and even grocery store snobs (as dubbed by a close friend). Either they feel that it’s too much work, or that those of us who coupon are destitute or weird (I’m NEITHER or these, by the way! LOL). However, it irritates me that many people feel that couponing is a hassle or a waste of time. Some even feel that it is a passing phase, and will go “out of fashion” when the economy “returns to normal” (whatever that is!). So, as I continue to clip, sort, and file my coupons each week, I’m reminded, that you have to have perseverance and some thick skin to succeed at couponing.
Couponing is a tool that can be used by the rich, middle class, and needy. It isn’t limited by race, religion, or geographical location. It is something that brings together those who love to save, and want to create a better life for their family. Those of us who coupon usually do put extensive time into clipping, sorting, and finding deals. However, isn’t this better than wasting my money on shopping for things I don’t need and will never use? We also give away some of the proceeds of our deal finding, which teaches our children to give to those less fortunate, and it teaches them the value of a dollar!
Personally, I feel that couopning has created a better life for my family. Yes, I get annoyed when I have to deal with a testy cashier, or my coupons completey fall out of my binder in the store (That’s always fun!), but it isn’t going to make me give up this way of life for my family. There are the pains of asking for a raincheck, teaching new cashiers the ropes, or taking the time to go to more than one store. However, I know I’ll be couponing until they either won’t let me out of the home to do my own shopping, or my time on this topsy-turvy globe comes to a screeching halt.
Couponing is fun, it brings my family together to work on a goal. It’s allowing us to go to Disney this summer. It helped me save so much on Christmas, I had a surplus after my shopping was done. If you’re a couponer, be proud! Don’t let other people discourage you, put you down, or make you feel like you’re beneath them. Couponing is better than a part-time job, it’s a way of life, and those of us do it, should be proud! 🙂
