My daughter, Veronica (age 10), and I have been spending the summer finding fun crafts and activities to do.
Check out our latest project: Giant Bubbles!
Supplies Needed for the Giant Bubble Wands:
- Two wooden dowels. [Length does not matter. Longer wands might let you get the bubble up higher in the air so it lasts longer before it hits the ground. Just make sure the dowels are thick enough in diameter so they don’t bend when you hold them out.]
- Pliers
- Two small eyelet screws
- Drill or tool with a small drill bit
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- 100 inches long length of cotton string
- 65 inches long length of cotton string
- Two metal washers (for weight on the string).
- Small container for the bubble liquid
- Giant Bubble Solution (recipe below)
Ours was officially inspected.
Directions:
1. Using a drill with a small drill bit, drill a small hole on one end of each dowel stick. 2. Then screw the eyelet loops into the holes.
3. We used pliers towards the end, to make sure it was in completely and tightly.
4. Measure and cut two lengths of cotton string. One should be 100 inches long.
5. The other should be 65 inches long.
6. Always have an extra pair of eyes to check your work 😉
7. Tie the end of the 100 inch string to one of the eyelets.
8. Next, thread the washer on to the 100 inch.
9. Then, tie the other end of the 100 inch string to the other eyelet on the other dowel.
10. You are almost finished! Keep up the good work.
11. Inspector Arya declared that it was an acceptable length.
12. Now take the 65 inch long piece of string and tie the end of it to one of the eyelet loops.
13. Tie the other length of string to the other eyelet.
Giant Bubble Solution:
- 10 cups of warm water (distilled water is best)
- 1 cup of dishwashing detergent
- 1/2-3/4 cup of corn syrup (or glycerin, if you happen to have some)
- Mix all the ingredients gently. [Avoid bubbles while mixing]
- Here is the secret: The bubble liquid gets better the longer it sits! It should marinate, at least, overnight.
Let us know what variations you discover. Have Fun!
