My birthday was last week, so I asked hubby if he could help the kids make this family tree artwork I found on Pinterest, or something like it. He blew me away with this beautiful piece of artwork from my littles. I am totally in love with it and it’s already hung on my wall. Hubby painted the background with the tree, grass, and sky and used the kids’ handprints as the leaves.
He is always so critical of his artwork and feels he should have left it with a white background like the family tree artwork I found on Pinterest. However, I love it, and we have a lot of colorful artwork in our home, so it fits perfectly. What mother isn’t going to love artwork painted by her children? The best part is that there is still room for extra set of handprints at the top.
How to Make this Handprint Artwork
For this picture you are going to need acrylic paints in your desired colors and a blank canvas in desired size. 10×14 or larger would be appropriate to fit handprints.
Select a saying of your choice, and writing can be completed with a chiseled Sharpie marker.
Paint background first.
Add handprints.
On Mother’s Day my husband had my children make the following handprint artwork project as well that is framed and hanging in my bedroom. This one is also my favorite. I’m a reading specialist, and he took the saying from one of my favorite children’s book of all time. He just hand wrote the saying and had the kids make their prints on either side. Hopefully this will inspire some other special gifts for moms.
