Today we’re going to talk about a neat, inexpensive way to teach your child many different skills by playing the Spatula game! This can also be played with fly swatters, but they’re hard to find this time of year! You will need as many spatulas as you have players. First, decide what skill you want to teach. For example, my son is learning sight words. These are words that are frequently used in reading and writing. He is supposed to learn several new words each week. So, I write these on index cards, lay them out on the table, then say a word aloud. He plays against my husband, and whoever slaps the card first gets to keep it AND gets one point. Of course, my husband intentionally loses, so that my son wants to keep playing and learning more words (This is the ONLY game where we let him win ;). This works well for spelling words, reading words, math facts, and just about anything you can put on an index card. I recently picked up a 4-pack of spatulas at the Dollar Store, so this is NOT an expensive game!
