My grandmother and I have been experimenting with some different homemade lotions, creams and body oils within the last few weeks. She found an article on homemade creams in a German magazine she subscribes to, the cream consist of 2 ingredients. YES I said 2 ingredients, and you most likely already have them at home. Milk, and Oil. There are optional ingredients you can add like essential oils, (check out our Young Living Essential Oils Special!) basil, cucumber, and Vitamin E oil.
For the milk you will want to use whole milk and it needs to be room temperature.
The type of oil you want to use depends on how dry your skin is. Olive oil is a really greasy, works best if you have really dry skin. Sesame oil is a medium oil. Almond, Avocado, and Sunflower oils are the driest.
Optional: Basil (helps as a “bug be gone”), Cucumber (soothes itchy skin/bug bites), essential oils, and Vitamin E oil (used like a preservative).
Step 1: Measure 50 ml of Whole milk, and let stand until room temperature.
Step 2: Measure out 100 ml of the oil of your choice.
Step 3: Either put the milk in a blender or a container where you can use a hand blender, and blend for approximately 2 minutes.
Optional step 3.5: If you are going to add basil (3-4 leaves fresh) or cucumber (1/5 of a Persian cucumber) add this now.
Step 4: Slowly add the oil, (literally a few drops at a time) while constantly blending. Until you’ve added all oil, you should start seeing the mixture become thick. (Almost as thick and whipped like homemade whipped cream.)
Optional Step 5: If adding essential oils do this now and blend in completely, also if planning on using Vitamin E oil blend completely in now. Only about 5 drops.
Time to find your very own container to add your 3 oz. homemade lotion into. I used travel container, my grandmother recycled and used a very cleaned out Jet Dry Container.
Keep in fridge to keep for a long period of time, plus on a hot day the lotion feels nice and refreshing.
