How To Make Toiletries Go Farther
Shop for the best deals. We have some great tips on how to utilize coupons to save on every household item, as well as how to find the best deals on toilet paper, it will soon become obvious that shopping for good deals is the key to making toiletries go farther. It’s much more about your ability to grab great deals and much less about stretching what you buy. That said, we have some great tips on stretching other common toiletries.
Add water to shampoo and conditioner. For most hair types, using a smaller amount of shampoo or conditioner works great, but to stretch it even farther you can use an old shampoo or conditioner bottle and empty half of the new contents into it. Fill the remaining space with water, shake and use. A watered down shampoo works great for most hair types. Conditioner may be needed at full strength for some, but is worth trying just in case.
Make sure your kids are using the right amount – of everything. From using only a pea sized amount of toothpaste, to only a quarter size amount of shampoo for shorter hair, you need to make sure your kids are using what they need and no more. Kids tend to pour, squirt and spray much more than is necessary. The same goes for hand soap, lotion and even hair spray. Take the time to monitor them a bit and make sure they understand what is really the right amount to use.
Make homemade foaming hand soap. We have a great recipe for DIY Foaming Hand Soap. Go, check it out and use it. The savings are huge and your hands will be just as clean. This cuts some major costs out of your bathroom toiletry needs.
Use pumps instead of squirt bottles. Bottles for soaps, lotions, shampoos and similar items that have a pump can be regulated much easier. One pump is often plenty for whatever is needed, and it can be easier to teach your kids and remind yourself of this when using pumps.
Buy quality products. From shampoo to toilet paper, if you buy better quality products you are less likely to go through them so fast. One-ply toilet paper is cheap and affordable, but you need 2-3 times as much to do the job. The result is you spend more money when you go too cheap. Use our coupon tips and buy quality so you aren’t buying such a large quantity.
These simple tips can help you stretch your dollars and reach your financial goals in half the time. Knowing how to make toiletries go farther isn’t about limiting your kids to one sheet of toilet paper per bathroom visit. It’s all about thinking outside the box and using what you have on hand appropriately.
