As LeapFrog Mom Ambassador, I receive products and educational materials in return for my honest review of the products.
LeapFrog recently sent us some amazing products, and we reviewed the LeapFrog Epic Tablet and The Number Lovin’ Oven. However, we also reviewed the LeapFrog Platinum and Word Whammer as well. This time we were able to review Scout’s Build & Discover Tool Set.
This is a great toy for helping children ages 2+ build counting & measuring skills – and a house for Scout! It is easy to take apart and put back together with the 5 included tools and some extra help from Scout! Each of the tools matches the item on the house that coordinates with that tool. So the orange hammer matches the orange nails and the blue screws match the blue screwdriver.
I have to say that this toy is great for little ones. My son is sixteen months and loves to play with this toy. We work together on taking the house apart and putting it back together. As you can see in the picture he doesn’t always have the hammer going in the right direction, but he gets the idea! We like it because its portable, so we can take it to the store, grandma’s house, etc.
As children go to work on the house, Scout talks and sings, introducing counting and colors and helping children learn about each tool. There are sing-along components, and Scout sings, barks, and asks open-ended questions. This is play with a purpose and children can work towards assembling the house by using each of the tools. I would definitely recommend this toy as a gift for a small child, and as a teacher, it definitely has my seal of approval!
