Learn a New Language with Babbel
I remember when our son was little, it was impossible to hide the fact that he was adopted. He was the most precious Guatemalan baby I had ever seen. I desperately wanted to learn Spanish to help him understand his cultural roots as he grew. However, I did not know how to teach myself a language, and there weren’t many resources in my area. I remember one time he even told me, “I speak Spanish…I can say Ola.” After a few chuckles, I realized how important it was for me to give him the opportunity to learn Spanish whenever he wanted.
We were recently given the opportunity to review the website Babbel.com for thirty days, and being a teacher, I am amazed by this site. You can learn via the website or the app. This means I can learn on the go whether I’m waiting in the transporter line at my son’s school or at the doctor’s office. I love the flexibility of when I can learn, since I don’t have time to actually go to a physical school to learn a new language. Babbel is the best-selling language learning app globally in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
They also offer courses in the following languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Norwegian,Danish, Russian, (Brazilian) Portuguese, Polish, Indonesian, Swedish, and Dutch. A professional team of linguists authors and language teachers design all language courses. This is important to me as a teacher, because so many times companies develop products that aren’t able to teach properly, and I really feel this has been very user friendly, which makes learning easier.
The app and website are very easy to use. Learning is self-paced, and each lesson takes you through a new skill with plenty of chances to practice that skill. It also teaches you how to spell the words, which has really helped me, because I wouldn’t have learned as much.
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to learn a new language. There are so many benefits to learning a new language too! Check out these statistics:
- You’ll Be Happy:Learning a new language stimulates the same part of your brain as gambling, chocolate and – yes – sex, says recent research.
- You’ll Train Your Brain: 93 percent of U.S. respondents in a Babbel user survey said that learning a language helps them to stay mentally fit.
- You’ll Boost Your Career: An extra language is worth an additional $67,000 of income over the career of the average university graduate. Take that money and put the new language to use on a trip.
- You’ll Believe In Yourself: 88 percent of U.S. Babbel user survey respondents said that the experience of learning a new language provides a boost in self-confidence.
- You’ll Make New Friends: 76 percent of U.S. Babbel user survey respondents noted that their new language helps them to meet new people.
I want to challenge you to learning a new language in the new year too! Don’t wait another day to check this off your bucket list!
