Organizing Your Gift Closet To Save You Money
Divide by occasion. Some gift items in your gift closet are going to be specific to holidays. Things like pens, stickers, holiday clothes and more can be sorted into bins or shelves for the various holidays like Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas and similar. Items that are more general gifts, you can simply divide by what would be better for just because, birthday or a holiday gift.
Divide by person. You can also begin organizing your gift closet to save you money by separating what are traditionally male and female gifts. While some items are unisex in nature, others may be specific and keeping them separated makes it easier to navigate your gift closet to find what you want or need for a specific occasion.
Keep a gift closet stock list. For items that you might want to gift more often than not, it is a great idea to have a list that will show you what you have in stock. Keep this list handy, so when you see a clearance bin or aisle you know what you are in need of. Items like candles, perfumes, bath products, home decor, scarves and wallets are great items to keep in your closet that you would want to keep track of and make sure you have in stock. This means you won’t be paying full price later down the road.
Rotate food gifts frequently. Often you can find amazing holiday themed food gifts at super low prices on clearance racks. However, as with any food purchase this can lead to food going bad if not used in time. Rather than leaving these gift packs in tact, open and separate the items to check expiration dates. If they have a long end date, you can easily store them in your gift closet for future gifts. If they have a sort end date, you may want to use them yourself, or gift them right away. Whatever you do, make sure you are checking the dates and rotating products on a regular basis.
Check your gift closet frequently. It is easy to forget what you have in your gift closet, so either keep a list like we mentioned before, or look in the closet and take a quick visual inventory. This way you are not purchasing items you don’t need.
Buy all your cards at one time. I purchase all of my birthday cards at the dollar store at one time. They are $0.50 each, and I know that I’m going to need for our parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. So, instead of making multiple trips for cards, and because they are so inexpensive, I buy all the cards I need for the year when I am off school in the summer. I keep these cards in a box in the gift closet so I always know where they are located, and this way I am not running to the dollar store at the last minute. Also, our dollar store has very, very nice quality glasses. I know not all dollar stores are created equal, so I hope your store has quality cards.
These tips to organizing your gift closet to save you money will help you to stay in budget, share amazing gifts with your friends and even get rid of debt thanks to the room in your budget!
