I love being an American and I take great pride in my country. I also love mason jar crafts. Put the two together and you got my attention. Add a touch of rustic country to that mix and I swoon. That’s why this craft is one of my very favorites.
Difficulty: 2 (out of 5)
What You’ll Need:
- mason jar
- red, white and blue paint (I used acrylic paint)
- whatever color paint you want your lettering to be
- letter stencil (optional)
- thin-tipped paintbrush, pouncers (I used the large and medium ones)
- tape (optional)
This craft is easy peasy. Just a couple steps and BAM – you’re admiring your masterpiece.
Step 1
Gather your mason jar, large pouncer and blue paint. Now if you want your lines to be straight (mine are not) then I would suggest using tape to create an edge. Just put tape around your jar when you want your edge to be and then paint. I didn’t want an exact edge so I did it freehand.
Use your large pouncer to apply the blue paint to the top of your jar. Just put some paint on the pouncer and press it onto the jar, in a kind of stamping motion. Go till you have covered as much area as you choose.
EASY RIGHT!
Step 2
Now get your medium pouncer. Decide how many red and white strips you want and how wide you want them to be. Then it’s as easy as applying the paint.
STILL PRETTY EASY, RIGHT!
Step 3
Look out this step is a doozy…..LET IT DRY
WOW, BROKE A SWEAT ON THAT ONE! LoL
Step 4
This step is optional. You can either leave the jar as it is or you can take a paint brush and go over where the lines meet to make a more polished look. You can also add stars to the blue area at this point. They make star shaped pouncers that you can get at any craft store. I just took a large pouncer and cut into it to create a star shape since I didn’t want a perfect shape. You can also fill in the shape of the star with your paint brush by dabbing the paint into the shape.
Step 5
Now this is the toughest step. You may want to use letter stencils or just do it freehand. You can even take a pencil and draw (very lightly) your letters on the paint and use that as a guide.
And you’re done!
There are so many little touches you can do to this project to make it yours or better yet to make it great for someone as a gift.
Some Ideas:
- Painting the lid
- You can paint whatever saying you want
- Make the colors darker or lighter
- Mix it up completely by painting a different flag and add a saying of pride for that country
