Do you suffer from TOO MANY T-SHIRTS-itis like my household?
Between the three of us, my family has (accidently) collected a TON of shirts!! [psst, those stacks in the pictures are just mine!] In addition to ‘daily’ shirts, also have a slew of ‘beloved’ shirts. Some are threadbare while others are hardly touched because we love them so much, that we don’t want to ‘ruin’ them. Many of our shirts are cherished memories that often replace photos or albums.
Over the years, each member of my family has added to their mountain-pile of t-shirts. I’ve considered framing them, or finding some creative outlet for many of them. THEN, I finally discovered the coolest concept for t-shirts! My friend told me about a blanket she had made with all of her t-shirts! I HAD to investigate!
Project Repat makes t-shirt quilts from t-shirts and any soft fabric. Their mission is to create US jobs, keep t-shirts out of landfills, and they use Recycled materials in their quilts. Pretty cool, right?? We thought so, and my husband & I decided to give it a whirl. The Project Repat website has wonderfully simple step-by-step instructions.
We picked the lap quilt that has 16-panels, and started to select our shirts. [That alone took MORE time than we thought…] Then we merged our shirts together into ‘themes’. For example: anime/cartoons or places we’ve been, etc.
To save on postage, we decided to cut along the opposite side of the shirt, to feature the picture that we wanted.
Then, we tried to fit it into the bag that Project Repat supplied, but we could not get it to fit.
Inspector Arya confirmed.
Project Repat then sent us a special mailer, so we could box it up.
We received email updates at every stage of the process (received, sent, etc).
2-3 weeks later… our package arrived!
We love our new, sturdy, blanket, full of memories.
Our daughter loved our blanket so much, that she started making a collection of her own t-shirts.
