Summer Infant Swaddles
Before our son was born, my coworker and I talked all the time about how she wrapped her son up like a “baby burrito” in his receiving blanket. She explained how it helped him fall & stay asleep. Her aunt even hand made her larger receiving blankets as he grew older because he loved being swaddled so much. I was very excited to try these Summer Infant Swaddles products with our son, because I have a really difficult time when I don’t get enough sleep! As I am sure you can believe, parents with newborns ages 0-5 months often sleep on average two hours less than usual per night, and our family is no different. Right now I’m getting about 2 1/2 hours of sleep in between feedings. From age 6 months through age two, parents are getting one less hour of sleep per night. That means that moms of babies are losing upward of 875 hours of sleep by the time their child’s second birthday rolls around!
While we had been swaddling every night at the hospital, when we brought the baby home, we didn’t keep up with that routine. We love our Swaddle Me Summer Infant Swaddlers too. It seems like once my blood pressure went very high, I was unfocused and out of it for a few weeks. This means we had very little routine, and I also keep reminding myself that this is my first newborn! We had purchased a co-sleeper, but he would wake constantly through the night, and I would give him his pacifier. This was creating a vicious cycle of wake, cry, and then giving him the pacifier. About a week ago my coworker and her friend came over and she reminded me about the baby burrito, so I told my husband we were going to start swaddling at every nap and at bedtime. Guess what? It works! We’ve been doing it ever since, and it keeps him much more settled, and has almost completely eliminated our need for a pacifier! During the night and at nap time, he would wake up when he didn’t have the pacifier, and he seemed more unsettled. However, he sleeps straight through the the Swaddles without waking! I’m sure it reminds him of being in the womb, and just seems to comfort and settle him quickly. He’s usually asleep within three to four minutes once he is in his SwaddleMe when it is his nap time.
